The problem
A laundry service priced by item, area and turnaround cannot quote from the browser — the moment pricing lives in client code, it can be edited by anyone who opens dev tools.
What I built
A Next.js booking flow backed by a Django API split into accounts, catalogue, orders, payments and zones, with all pricing calculated server-side.
The multi-step booking draft persists as the customer moves through collection details, so a dropped connection does not cost them the order.
The parts that were hard
Pricing the customer cannot edit
Quotes are computed server-side against the catalogue and the delivery zone, never trusted from the client.
Zone-aware collection
A dedicated zones service decides availability and pricing by area, rather than hardcoding a single service radius.
Drafts that survive
The booking draft is persisted through the multi-step collection flow so customers can resume rather than restart.
My role
Sole engineer — product, frontend and backend.
