The problem

The client needed a regulated-grade consumer trading product: users buy, sell and swap crypto, trade gift cards, and move money — which means identity verification, real two-factor authentication, and an audit trail are not optional extras.

It also had to be understandable. Most trading interfaces are built for people who already trade; this one had to work for a first-time user without dumbing down the actual functionality.

What I built

I built the user-facing platform: onboarding and sign-up, the full KYC journey, the trading and swap interfaces, gift cards, transaction history, and account settings.

State is handled with Redux Toolkit and a mutex-guarded token refresh, so a session that expires mid-trade recovers cleanly instead of dropping the user or firing duplicate refreshes.

The parts that were hard

Identity verification end to end

Dojah KYC integrated as a first-class flow with real states — unverified, pending, rejected and verified — each with its own screen, so a user always knows exactly where they stand and what to do next.

Two-factor, two ways

Email codes and authenticator-app TOTP, with enrolment, recovery and enforcement handled in the UI.

Built to scale in headcount

Around 28,000 lines across 200+ files, with a Radix and Tailwind component system, zod-validated forms, internationalisation and theming — structured so other engineers can work in it without stepping on each other.
